The Start of Geekdom

Back in the old days, I didn't have a gaming system. But oh, did I want one. I saw my friends playing their Game Boys and playing Mario, Tetris and other games. So naturally, being the kid that I was, I begged for it to my parents for my birthday. And lo and behold, the Nintendo Game Boy that came bundled with Tetris was the first ever gaming system I ever received. I was 9.

Boy did I love it (and so did my Dad). My father and I would exchange playing it because we were both addicted to Tetris. We would compare who got the highest line clears constantly. I think I won at 105 lines. :)

After a while, I got more games for it such as, Darkwing Duck and Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle. Most of them may have been merchandising games, but I really liked them.

It's been about 17 years since I first got my Game Boy, and I still have it and it still works. The old stuff really stands the test of time, oddly enough.

Then, I got a Sega Game Gear. I loved that it had a color display, though the downside was that it drained batteries and I had to play by the wall constantly to plug in the adapter. I rather liked the game it came with, Columns (I mean, it's basically like Tetris). I also got many Sonic games such as Sonic 2, Sonic Chaos, Sonic Labyrinth, and Sonic Blast. I loved playing the Sonic games, but I never finished all of them because in each game I could not get past the water levels. And This was back in the day where you couldn't save the game.

Unfortunately, the last time I tried to turn on my Game Gear I was met with a wibbly, white screen where I couldn't see anything clearly. My Game Gear is broken and no longer can I play those games like I used to...

And then I got Pokemon Blue for Game Boy. I think this was my first RPG and boy did I respond to it along with many, many other kids in my generation (and newer generations).
